A big whahoo go out to the folks! I just got a phone call from them letting me know they've been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Independence, Missouri mission. As converts to the church, this will be their first mission, though I don't think it will be their last. Dad has recently retired from his long career in education and they now look forward to serving the great folks in that area. Interestingly enough, this mission also covers their hometown of Burlington, Kansas. In our recent visit, we talked to the couple serving there and there is a great deal of help needed in strengthening the saints there as well and going door to door introducing folks to our faith. With dad having served as a bishop, he's leadership skills may be put to use once again as they enter the MTC in October! Best wishes to you mom and dad! I'm very excited for you and look forward to the experience you will have while serving the Lord!

That's so exciting Deena! I know 2 people who went to that mission and they loved it.
How absolutely wonderful for your parents and for your whole family. I'm sure you all will see the blessings.
I remember thinking your folks were great (and also that your mom's coconut cake was great too!) and it's not surprising that they'll be serving a mission. What a great experience!
